Mindfulness at The Yoga Barn
Today I’ve started my 8 week Mindfulness Meditation course at The Yoga Barn in Keston UK. And what a place it is to practice your meditation. I’ve actually been attending The Yoga Barn for some 3 years now for meditation and yoga classes but the Mindfulness is a new course there.
Inside the barn its pretty amazing! Such a special place to start your meditation journey. Of course it helps if the people there too are like minded and lets face it those of us that meditate generally are. The Yoga Barn attracts that person. Us Like Minded People seem to attract one and other which is whats needed to help us grow.
Tracey, our teacher, has such a great away about her. Shes a natural, down to earth teacher with a sense of humor when needed but more importantly a knowing when to listen deeply and to be with the group in a supportive and safe way.
Here’s a little text from her site just so you understand what Mindfulness Meditation is:
Finding Peace in a Frantic World is designed for those with busy lives, we learn how to notice when we are inhabiting our two modes of mind, how to respond from a clear and calm space rather than automatically react from our habitual patterns and how to approach rather than avoid difficulties. Learning to pay attention to what we are experiencing, moment by moment with both curiosity, friendliness and kindness.
This course provides an excellent introduction to mindfulness practices which have been proven to help people deal more effectively with stress and anxiety. The training can help you appreciate each moment of your life more and so improve the quality of your life. The eight week course is a very practical and accessible introduction to mindfulness and involves both teaching and discussion to explore different themes of the book.
We meet each week for 90 minutes and the participants commit to undertake a home practice (between 20 and 30 minutes) six days per week for the duration of the course. This commitment gives the best chance of learning the skills required to reduce stress and enhance well-being.
So I’m only one day in but very excited to be taking part in this course. Today was a welcoming day. We got to know the other Mindfulness Students taking the course and discussed our motives and even our fears.
The class today included 2 short but deep meditation practices that were very powerful. If this is just the start then the rest of the course will be amazing! All I need to do is purchase ‘Finding Peace in a Frantic World’ by Mark Williams and Danny Penman, actually this I should have done before I started! 🙂
I will keep you all up to date on how this Mindfulness Course goes. If you are in the London / Kent area and want to get involved yourself please go to Tracey’s website and book yourself in! www.yogabarn.co.uk or follow The Yoga Barn on Twitter @Yoga_Barn_UK
Love & Blessings,
