The world is changing forever!

The world as you know it is changing forever. Technology is moving so fast you no longer need money! Even your credit and debit cards will be obsolete in the very close years to come! All you need is a smart phone. They say it’s now the safer way to pay with the new apps they offer. iPhone now have apple pay and advertise it everywhere as the safest way to pay! But is it really? What is so unsafe about good old paper money!? Or should they really be saying……
We have been approached by the powers to be and they have asked us to create away for all purchases to be traced so they can know how much money you spend, on what and how much money you actually have!

As well this big companies are offing you stuff for free! Sky will now give you free broadband for 1 year on a 1 year contract. After a year you can leave and you’ve save £15 a month for 12 months! But no you haven’t!  You’ve just sold your details to sky! The biggest business now and will be for years to come is information. Your information! What you are doing is letting sky have your name, address and all your details along with everything you’ve been doing for 12 months online. That information will be used against you for the rest of your life! You will be sold to marketing firms, online agencies, banks and more. You are already in a major computer system and every day you are being updated and building your own online file. Facebook will earn millions from every user it has! There is no such thing as a free dinner!

Unfortunately this can not change. It is happening and it will continue to happen. I’m just trying to open your mind.

Week 4 Mindfulness Meditation at The Yoga Barn

mind

The mind is always racing, and always going, and always working. Its a gift and a curse.

In week 4 at the Yoga Barn we covered how the mind is always working behind the scenes to build a picture of the world as best as it can. Its always updating that picture with the new information it receives attaching body sensations and emotions to them. It then anticipates the effects of the future but it can only do this with the past experience it has had.

This is why events seen in the minds eye can be very different from person to person: we don’t see the world as it is, but as we are!

Our thoughts are just mental events that carry our perception of the world but have the power to change our mood from moment to moment. So what we need to do is notice the thoughts but not getting caught up in the stories. Easier said than done hey! But of course we have a tool for this!

The meditation we learned in week 4 was The Sounds and Thoughts Meditation to help us sense when the body and mind are signalling that things are turning negative and, maybe,  self-attacking. This is quite often what happens when we’re feeling stressed or vulnerable and the self-criticism voice starts in our head. We never hear the voice of compassion! Of course then our mind starts trawling through passed experiences supporting the self-criticism we’ve thrown at ourselves….. What’s the matter with me? Something has to change. I must never fail. I can’t stand this anymore etc.

In the meditation we’re taught to listen to the everyday sounds but trying not to label them. Take them in as if it is the first time we’re hearing them. Letting them come and go. Trying not to attach any thoughts to them. Then after a few minutes we let our thoughts come and go. We sat back and watched them. Trying not to get caught up in them and trying not to have attachment to them. Just treating them as the sounds we were listing to. This is a very effective way to learn how to let go of your thoughts whilst meditating. We were told to imagine we were sitting on a river bank looking at the river or stream moving along. Every now and then a thought would pass by. Look at it but let it go with the flow of the stream. If you find yourself caught up in the thought, we had wondered in to the stream itself and were now wet! We congratulated ourselves for waking up and slowly walked back out of the stream and sat on the side once more.

This is actually very similar to what I do but instead I imagine I’m sitting in front of a TV that’s powered off. Every now and then someone would walk by and switch it on. When I notice this has happened I would lean over and switch it off. Then focus on the blank screen. This for me is the quickest and most effective way I’ve found to slip very quickly in to deep meditation.

Also we learned the 3 step breathing meditation that takes just 3 minutes! Most say this is the most powerful meditations of them all!

  • Step 1: Becoming aware
  • Step 2: gathering and focusing attention
  • Step 3: expanding attention

Imagine an hour glass. The top is you opening your attention and gently acknowledge whatever is entering and leaving awareness.  The narrowing of the hourglass is you focusing your attention on the breath in the lower abdomen focusing on the physical sensations of breathing. The base of the hourglass is you opening your awareness. Here you are opening to life as it is, moment by moment.

This is great if you are to give a speech or about to do something that makes you feel a little uneasy in a present moment. Remember its just your thoughts of a past experience that’s making you feel like this and this time it probably wont actually be anything like it was then! Take a moment to do the hour glass meditation and realize every moment is different. Then go rewrite history for yourself! 🙂

To recap on the above… Don’t take the world as you see it as it might not be how it actually is! Take time to absorb your surroundings for the moment, not for the thoughts racing through your mind. You might just be missing a special very gift that has been placed right in front of you!

Week 3, Mindfulness Meditation at the Yoga Barn

Week 3 in Mindfulness Meditation

Week 3 was a fun week for Mindfulness Meditation at the Yoga Barn. You may remember in my week 2 post I said I’m off to practice week 3 which involves me acting like a big kid. Week 3 was Mindful moving.

Mindful Moving involves, of course, moving and stretching.

Quite often in life we’re too busy rushing around at 100 miles an hour. No longer taking time for life. So Mindful moving for me was connecting back to life. Stepping out of the rat race. Slowing the pace. Making the most of every situation and letting time unfold rather than trying to make it. Drinking in every moment with its full surroundings; the sounds, the sights and the touch.

In week one we were told to go for a random walk. Even if it was raining. Feel the wind, the rain etc. This can be as beautiful as walking in the sun shine!

This week there was a slight twist. A Mindful walk. And here’s what you do. Find a nice grass area, your garden is probably best as there you shouldn’t be seen. Take your shoes off and socks if you like. Stand nice and firmly on the grass. Lower your gaze and slightly close your eyes just enough so you don’t walk in to things. Then slowly, very slowly start to walk. Feel the grass under your feet. Connect with exactly how it feels. Try to feel the texture of the grass. Feel every foot step as you make it. Observe all the noises that are thrown at you. The aeroplanes flying over head. The cars driving passed. The children playing in the garden next door. The birds singing in the trees. Observe them all. Do this for about 10 minutes you’ll be amazed just how lost in the moment you can get. After this you will no longer wish to rush about again 🙂

After this we did some Mindful stretching and Mindful Breathing exercises. Too many times in life we push ourselves to the limits. Push past what we are comfortable with. So in the stretches we stretched just to the point of where the pain would start but not past it. We would hold it for a while and start to focus on the edges of the discomfort and then it would start to dissolve. This would last for about 10 minutes.

The other exercise we done was The Three-minute Breathing Space. This was created to deal with such situations. It’s a mini meditation that acts as a bridge between the longer, formal meditations we’d done in the other weeks.

Its impact is twofold: first and foremost, it’s a meditation that’s used to punctuate the day, so that you can more easily maintain a compassionate and mindful stance, whatever comes your way. In essence, it dissolves negative thought patterns before they gain control over your life – often before you’re even aware of them. Secondly, it’s an emergency meditation that allows you to see clearly what is arising from moment to moment when you feel under pressure. It allows you to pause when your thoughts threaten to spiral out of control, by helping you to regain a compassionate sense of perspective and to ground yourself in the present moment.

This is a very simple and effective exercise. Its best to stand as its quite a short meditation. First you focus on your thoughts for the first minute. Let the come and go but don’t get sucked in to them. Then move to your breathing. Focus on this for just a minute. Then focus on your body as a whole. Check in to see how it feels, imagine you can breath in and out of your whole body!

I’d like to quote this:

“The deep stillness we seek does not arise because the world is still or the mind is quiet. Stillness is nourished when we allow things to be just as they are for now, in this moment, moment by moment and breath by breath.”

~ Mark Williams

Besides guided mediations, yoga and ecstatic dance, screenings of valuable documentaries, and speeches from inspired teachers based on the island, Wake Up Ibiza Festival will also be hosting several high profile guests, such as Olivier Masselot, translator of Transurfing and author of NeuroQuantis, or Luisa Muratori who will be sharing their wisdom and philosophies with us. Special guest Janosh, will also be leading the way with a journey into the subconscious through his sacred geometry, and Lippy will be talking through the Human Design System, which originated here in Ibiza.

Massages, tarot readings, and galactic code readings amongst others are provided by a wonderful collection of island mystics, whilst the selection of market stalls provides plenty of opportunity for great gifts or artesanal products from the island. Live music throughout the day includes reggae from Jah Bliss and Raga & Tala (classical indian music) by Saigo Dicenta & Domenico Caputo, all original Ibiza artists.

Says The Zoo Project’s Lubka Pajer
“We are preparing this event so we can inspire the people to wake up & collectively achieve awakening. Now more than ever we have all the tools to unite & learn, so we can realize the full potential of our physical & energetic body as human beings. Now is the time to start fully living from the heart & expand the global consciousness to create more harmonious life on our planet.”

Week 2, Mindfulness Meditation at the Yoga Barn.

The Awakening Spirit

Week 2 in Mindfulness Meditation

As you may have noticed 2 weeks have passed since my last post on Mindfulness Meditation at the Yoga Barn. This was simply because the week doesn’t finish after the class. In fact we continue the practice for the next 6 days and of course this is where the experiences may flourish. It takes a full 8 weeks for you to fully absorb the teachings.

Moving forward I will wait for the full week to finish just in case I had more to share with you.

Since my last post I purchased the book ‘Finding Peace in a Frantic World’ by Mark Williams and Danny Penman. Its a great book so far and it will be one I’ll read again and again I’m sure! But for now I’m waiting at chapter 8 as we can’t move past the chapters that relate to the week we’re in. I’m really trying hard not to have a sneaky look though lol.

Week 2, for me, was very exciting! We moved away from the Breath Meditation and on to the Body Scan Meditation. Those of you that meditate will be use to this as its something we’re taught at an early stage. But some of us do forget to continue with this body scan at the beginning of our meditation sessions, just as I had. So it was nice to have a gentle reminder to, once again, introduce it to my daily practices.

So the body scan is great as it increases our familiarity with our bodies and in time in Mindfulness we will learn how the body responds to our inner and outer lives, to our thoughts and emotions, and to events around us. The Buddha saw the human mind and body as unified. When we suppress or ignore aspects of our emotional, cognitive, and volitional lives, we tend also to disconnect from the body, from the physical manifestations of our experience. Conversely, when we distance ourselves from our physical experience, we lose touch with our inner life of emotions and thoughts.

The Awakening of the body from within that comes with Mindfulness can help us to discover, not only our repressed emotions, but also, more importantly, a greater capacity to respond to the world with healthy emotions and motivations.

In the Mindfulness Meditation class for the body scan we are taught to let each part of the body dissolve in to mindfulness once we have scanned it then move on to the next. This I just naturally done by imagining that part of the body started to turn to smoke and slowly drifted up above me ’til the body part had gone. Then I moved to the next part and continued the process. When I got to my shoulders something quite special happened. Everything went silent and my vision in my mind started to turn completely white. At first this was quite a shock that made me jump which, of course, brought me back. After a few deep breaths I continued. Now I knew what to expect I should be able to let it happen. And yes it happened again. As the whiteness cleared I felt extremely light. As if I was floating. I was. I found myself some 6 to 8 foot above where I was. I managed to slowly turn over so I could look at myself. All that was there was a void where my body was. It was as if I was made of glass so I could see the edges but I could see right through me. I turned back towards the ceiling and just floated for a bit trying to absorb all the feeling and thoughts going through me. Within no time Tracey, our teacher, hit the Tingsha and I felt a huge pull downwards. All I could think was “oh no I’m going back!” I tried to fight it but I couldn’t stop! As soon as I felt my body I became very emotional! I wanted to cry! But at the same time I was very excited.

Once we were all ready we talked about our experience. Of course mine was the only one that would give the impression that there was a crazy person in the group lol. But those of you that know me would know this isn’t the first time something like this has happened. After all its the reason this site and my social media groups were created.

So it turns out it was just little old me that had this experience. And of course this isn’t was Mindfulness Meditation is about, I just wanted to share it with you guys as I know some of you reading this will relate to what I’m talking about! If that’s you, drop me an email I’d love to hear about it!

For the rest of the week you have to be quite disciplined and make the time to continue the practice. It’s just 10 minutes twice a day so it should be quite easy to squeeze in. (This just reminded me think of an old Zen saying…. You should sit in meditation for 20 minutes a day, unless you’re too busy then you should sit for an hour) lol. Just make the time, in later life you can thank yourself! Admittedly it doesn’t stop with the meditation. We had to go for a Mindfulness walk which you should all do next time you go for a walk. Listen to the birds, the cars, the planes above. Look above eye level. Look at the trees, the sky, the building. Feel every foot step you make. Feel the wind on your face, the rain if its raining. The sun if its sunny. Drink it all in. Connect with it all and see how it makes you feel!

The week before we had to have a Mindfulness meal. (you see I missed this out as I didn’t wait for the week to finish) So here you have to eat a meal with your eyes closed. Feel each bite. Taste each taste. Smell every bit before you put it in to your mouth. As you eat it try to feel it as you swallow it. Try to find the point of which you can no longer feel it. Not something to do in a posh restaurant as you can imagine! Probably best to do at home alone lol.

So that’s it for now. I’m off to practice week 3 which involves me acting like a big kid, I’m good at this one 🙂

Look Within – You Are The World!

The Door within

I think there is a way of understanding the whole process of birth and death, becoming and decaying, sorrow and happiness…. we see around us this continual becoming and decaying, this agony and transient pleasure, but we cannot possibly understand this process outside of ourselves. We can comprehend this only in our own consciousness, through our own ”I” process and if we do this, then there is a possibility of perceiving the significance of all existence.

Is there a reason for being?

Why do you want a reason forbeing? (Laughter). You are here. And because you are here and don’t understand yourself, you want to invent a reason. You know, Sir, when you look at a tree or the clouds, the light on the water, when you know what it means to love, you will require no reason for being….. Then all the museums in the world and all the concerts will have only secondary importance. Beauty is there for you to see, if you have the mind and the heart to look-not out there in the cloud, in the tree, in the water, in the thing, but in yourself.

What is important is not to follow anybody but to understand oneself. If you go into yourself without effort, fear, without any sense of restraint, and really delve deeply, you will find extraordinary things; and you don’t have to read a single book….

In oneself lies the whole world, and if you know how to look and learn, then the door is there and the key is in your hand. Nobody on earth can give you either that key or the door to open, except yourself.

-J. Krishnamurti, Pg. 158, You Are The World

HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THIS?

Waking up, at first, is very difficult to deal with for many. Your whole life previously had been spent trying to please others. You had essentially been wearing a mask and been putting forward this false facade of yourself, which was merely your ego-self trying to gain acceptance in a world which deep down you knew didn’t make sense. There was a void in your life, an underlying intuitive, but not yet unlocked belief, that this ego-driven illusion is not how the world should be. No matter how hard you partied. No matter how hard you worked. No matter how many paper notes or invisible numbers marked by your name, nothing could disguise this. You succeeded in making a living but failed to make a life. Happiness will come tomorrow, you told yourself, but tomorrow never came.

From the moment you lay eyes on this world, you have been a victim of conditioning that somehow succeeded in desensitising you to the suffering of your fellow human beings, the planet and its inhabitants. Instead of trading hugs, you traded material possessions. Instead of uniting, you were competing. You convinced yourself that individual comfort was more important than collective unity and thought it was normal to chase the immediate fulfilling of impulses at the detriment to your health. Ultimately you put your faith in a system that you trusted had the best interests of the people and planet at heart. However, deep down, in the core of your being, you truly knew the system was broken.

As if by divine intervention, the penny drops and a flood of truth comes pouring into your life. Nothing is certain anymore, but everything is possible. You become drowned with endless information, which can be extremely daunting. Where do you start? You begin to see things holistically and start to spot how things link and piece together like never before. For many, this uncertainty and deluge of new knowledge and revelations can be overwhelming and often leads to depression.

For those of you at this stage now don’t worry you are not alone. Remember this:

‘The truth will set you free but first it will piss you off’
– Gloria Steinem

Truth always prevails. You now truly begin to understand the meaning of ‘Knowledge is Power’ and the depression begins to subside. That phase of uncertainty and worry is one that every truth seeker must go through. Once the blizzard goes away, a new and brighter path appears. You start to realize that although you are discovering many truths, which on the surface may seem to be negative, this increased awareness is both liberating and empowering. The truth is a bitter pill to swallow, but once digested, leads to an extremely valuable reward: knowledge, wisdom and happiness.

A better understanding of the world means you become less detached from the suffering within it. You no longer accept the insane notion that is natural for some to be wealthy whilst others have nothing. You have a sudden increase in empathy towards, not only other humans, but towards the planet as a whole and all of its inhabitants. You realise that everyone and everything is interconnected. You thus treat the suffering of others as if it is your own and discover a beautiful oneness with nature. We are in essence a microcosm of the planet and by harming the planet we are harming ourselves.

You realise however that in order to give out love, you must first love yourself. You develop a greater understanding that your body is a temple that it is linked to mind and spirit and it deserves full respect. A healthier body means a happier and more fruitful life. You begin to develop an aversion to foods that you once craved, because your heightened intuition is steering you away from the poisons that you realize are in the foods you once consumed regularly. You seek to make the most out of the fruits and plants of nature.

Happiness, you realise, comes from the finer things in life, not the false promise the media feeds you that you need material possessions. The system thrives off our desire to crave and want. That way we slave away hopelessly in unsatisfying occupations and take out loans to try and satisfy these artificial desires. Whether it be a credit card or mortgage, debt are the chains that link us to them. However we are now breaking the chains we had once willingly but ignorantly chained to ourselves. By chasing something outside of ourselves, we become locked into a perpetual state of desire that ultimately is never satisfied. Materialism becomes a thing of the past. The superficial no longer matters. You learn not to rely on external guidance, but begin an inward journey, a ‘Soul Discovery’.

‘The first half of life is devoted to forming a healthy ego, the second half is going inward and letting go of it.’
(Carl Jung)

Upon going inwards, your intuition starts to speak louder than ever. You become more aware of your thoughts and how to effectively control them. As such, you learn how to become more conscious and mindful in everyday life. You have a greater ability to live in the present. Time, you realise, is a construct that keeps us enslaved into thinking that happiness lies in the future. However true happiness can only really be found in the present moment. That is all there is. Everything else is illusion,

Your heightened intuition means you can more accurately decipher between what is real and what is illusion and no longer mindlessly absorb that which is fed to you through the likes of the media. Your ability to make accurate character judgments strengthens whilst your desire to engage in mundane everyday small talk diminishes. You are increasingly drawn towards others on your wavelength, sometimes in the most synchronistic of circumstances, whilst simultaneously drifting from those who remain in your old way of thinking. Your disliking of routine increases whilst your desire for adventure becomes more appealing than ever.

Ultimately you come to the realisation that you are not alone and that there are many others following the same path. Souls all round the world are awakening to their true potential. We are beginning to reach a collective understanding and are shifting towards an evolution in human consciousness, a time marked by unparalleled compassion and peaceful coexistence, in which we discover forgotten truths, remember who we are, remember that love is everything and ultimately reignite the understanding that we are all connected, we are all one. To enter this new era we must first get through the current hardships we face. But remember these are necessary for we have come here to experience, learn, love, evolve and then return home. That is the sole purpose of life on this planet. Everything happening in your life, and others, including the bad, is necessary to achieve this. That is the fundamental duality of life.

The future is brighter and the change starts from within.

Blessings on your Journey

Open your mind in 7 easy steps!

The Awakening Open your MIND

Opening your mind is the first step to unleashing the unlimited power within you. You must learn to identify all the things in your conscious and subconscious mind that stunt the growth of your mind, body, and spirit. Positive changes will be evident in your life when you are mentally and physically receptive to the energy that created you and the energy around you.

We have been given the power to develop ideas and exercise free will. We grow and develop egos that preserve very particular ideas about ourselves in relation to the world around us. The development of and obsession with these ideas may be what makes some people evil, violent, angry, or sad. They teach us to discriminate, hate, stereotype, and judge unfairly. From these ideas there are lessons to be learned, but you can freely discard any part of them in order to reconnect with the perfect, peaceful, loving, and kind energy that created you.

To help you further understand how to open your mind, try one or more of these simple steps:

1. Get Your Ego In Check: Your ego is your conscious mind, that which controls your behavior and tries to give meaning to your external, material reality. It is powerful and can control your life, if you allow it to. Your external reality is a direct result of your mental and spiritual self. If your mental and spiritual self are not where you want them to be, your external and material self will suffer. The ego cannot improve the quality of your mental and spiritual life.

2. Rid Your Mind of Judgment: Our minds are full of ideas instilled in us by countless sources: our parents, culture, friends, history, teachers, loved ones and religious leaders. Judgment tells you that a finite set of ideas are the only correct ideas. All other beliefs are wrong.

3. Practice Silence: It sounds unbelievable, but most of us living in modern societies have a very hard time being quiet or enjoying the absence of verbiage. Sometimes we are too darn busy talking, listening to music or trying to relax with special gadgets that we forget about ourselves, and cause undue stress, anxiety and diseases in the process. Understanding that we have the power to soothe and relax our mind, body, and spirit with no outside help is essential to opening yourself to all the possibilities that lie ahead.

4. Learn to Meditate: There are many meditation techniques, but the end result is (or should be) always the same: create a relaxed state of mental and physical being by focusing and calming the mind. When you are in silent meditation, there is a balance between the internal and external you that will help heal, empower and create a revitalized you.

5. Learn to Pray: It sounds somewhat silly since most of use have been taught by our guardians or friends a very specific way of praying. In fact, most of us were taught that praying is something reserved for very particular situations, such as getting something that you want. Yet, prayer should be a conversation with ourselves and the divine energy that created us in order to find common ground and find solutions to our problems.

6. Trust Yourself: Always remember that you are a divine creature. There is reason and meaning, not only for the different experiences in your life, but for your life as a whole. We are all here to learn and better our lives for ourselves and those around us. Trust in every experience because every single one of them will bring you closer to your life’s destiny. Never think of them as a distraction or a detour. Recognize the lesson in each positive or negative experience, and try to find the meaning of each one.

7. Keep Hope Alive: At some point or another, we all lose hope. Life is full of challenges. While discovering your path or purpose, it is not uncommon to encounter situations or problems that seem too big to handle. When this happens, it is perfectly normal to feel discouraged and lose motivation. You may go back to old habits or engage in new, more distracting habits that lead you away from your path.
